Arthur Sloan ALEDO, Ill. #45;- Arthur L. Sloan, 66, Aledo, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo. Services are 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, Ill., with military rites conducted by the Eliza American Legion Post No. 1971. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. Mr. Sloan was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Lyon County, Kan., the son of Wiley S. and Mary Rowley Sloan. He married Nancy L. Stirn Aug. 9, 1958, in Aledo. He graduated from Joy High School. He was an U.S. Army veteran. He farmed for many years and was employed as a machinist at John Deere Plow and Planter, retiring June 30, 1994. He was a member and currently post commander of the Eliza American Legion Post No. 1971, Mercer County YMCA and UAW Local 434. He enjoyed farming, gardening, playing dominoes, building wind chimes and especially being with his family Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Elizabeth Griffith and companion Eugene Ray III of Millersburg, Ill., LuAnn Burroughs and husband John of Mansfield, Texas, Terry Dillie and husband Ernie of Joy, Ill., Tammy Wood and husband Rick of Aurora, Colo.; two sons, Bill Sloan and wife Lisa of Edgington, Ill., and Tim Sloan and wife Chris of Stuttgart, Germany; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Alice Falls of Galesburg, Ill., and Jeanette Sloan of Rock Island, Ill.; three brothers, Shirland Sloan of Oneida, Ill., Harold Sloan of Cameron, Ill., and Murrel Sloan of Joy. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jonathan; a sister, Lucille; and three brothers, Wayman, Venus and Grover.
