BARBARA SPAULDING MUSCATINE, Iowa - Barbara L. Spaulding, 77, of Muscatine, died on Monday, May 30, 2011, at Carrington Place. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Steven Cauley of the Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Iowa City Hospice Program or the American Cancer Society. Barbara was born on October 29, 1933, in Neosho, Missouri, the daughter of Charles E. and Nina D. Housden Severs. She married Leroy S. Spaulding on November 17, 1951, in Bentonville, Arkansas. She worked at various auto dealerships as a bookkeeper. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed doing genealogy work, traveling with her family and friends, and was a member of the Whistle Stoppers. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Leroy S. Spaulding of Muscatine; one son, Michael S. Spaulding of Muscatine; one daughter, Sharon K. Herlein and husband, Randy, of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Jay Herlein of Madison, Wisconsin, and Abigail Acarregui and husband, Steven, of Denver, Colorado; and one sister, Carla Sprenkle of Abilene, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Frank Severs.
