BERNICE HAHN MUSCATINE, Iowa - Bernice L. Hahn, 97, of Muscatine, died on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Bickford Cottage. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011, at Wesley United Methodist Church. Dr. Bruce Ursin of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011, at the church. Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church or to the family in care of Janet Barry. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Bernice was born on October 17, 1913, in Muscatine, the daughter of William H. and Gertrude Suman Umlandt. She married H. Bernard Hahn on July 1, 1935, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2001. She was a 1935 graduate of Iowa State University, with a degree in child development. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and was a long time and an honorary member of Geneva Golf and Country Club. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Chapter MN, and the Order of Eastern Star. She loved to play golf and write poetry and prose. Those left to honor her memory include two daughters, Janet Barry of Muscatine, and Kay McGowan and husband, Ron, of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Richard Barry and wife, Denise, Robert Barry and wife, LeeAnn, Jim Barry and wife, Diana, Susanna Rivera and husband, Matt, Bill McGowan, Sarah Vegter and husband, Dan, and Phil McGowan and wife, Casey; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother.
