Carl Fladlien MUSCATINE, Iowa - Carl H. Fladlien, 80, of Bettendorf died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at his home following an extended illness. Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at McGinnis, Chambers amp; Sass Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or the Quad Cities Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. Mr. Fladlien was born June 24, 1920, in Rock Island, Ill., the son of Gottlieb and Barbara Knothe Fladlien. He married Jean Saelens Sept. 5, 1942, in Buffalo. He was a wood pattern maker for over 50 years. He worked at Arrow Pattern in Moline, Ill. and at General Pattern of Moline, retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army with the 126th FA Battalion in Luzon during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he received the Army of Occupation Medal of Japan, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, the Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star and the World War Il Victory Medal. Survivors include his wife, Jean; two daughters, Karen Miller of LeClaire and Diana Fladlien of Davenport; a son, Mike Fladlien of Muscatine; two grandsons; and a brother, David Fladlien of San Francisco, Calif.
