Dagmar LaRue Obituary

Funeral Time: December 5th, 2020 Dagmar Viktoria LaRue (Muller) Sept. 1, 1941-Nov. 18, 2020 Beloved mother, avid gardener, and retired Registered Nurse, Dagmar LaRue passed away peacefully on Nov. 18, 2020 at the age of 79 surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Born to Landwirt Friedrich Hans-Joachim Ernst Muller and Barbara Hildegard von Hopffgarten on Sept. 1, 1941, she grew up on the banks of the Elbe River in the picturesque town of Meissen in eastern Germany with her three siblings: Gert, Angelika, and Ernst. As a child, her parents told her to pack a day bag to travel to western Berlin. Believing she was going to visit relatives for the night, she later discovered she would not be able to return to her hometown until the Berlin Wall was torn down on Nov. 9, 1989. At the age of 21, she courageously sailed to the United States, where she worked as an au pair for the Forester family of Greenwich, Conn. It was there that she met her first husband, Richard T. Glendenning, whom she married in 1964, and later gave birth to her first daughter, Katherine Ann Glendenning. She eventually divorced Richard and was remarried in 1976 to Charles Roebling LaRue of New Jersey. It wasn't long after that Dagmar gave birth to her second daughter, Mary Elizabeth LaRue. She later divorced again and went to school to become a Registered Nurse at the age of 52. Dagmar's zest for life was evident in her enthusiasm to travel and see the world. Her passion for adventure brought her to places like London, Paris, Brussels, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Munich, and Istanbul. Approaching life with a sense of excitement, anticipation, and energy she was grateful to have the opportunity to travel the Midwest with her daughter Mary. Together they explored the Grand Canyon, Red Rock State Park, the Phoenix Zoo, and an old ghost town outside of Phoenix, Az. that had an old mine and a scenic lake nestled amongst a strikingly beautiful mountain range. They later travelled to Idaho, where she took pictures of antelope at the Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park and saw the Bruneau Canyon. Dagmar enjoyed the simplest pleasures in life and cherished spending time with family and friends as well as the beauty of nature, wildlife, forests, and blooming flowers. She enjoyed taking long walks and spent countless hours tending to her gardens, picking the fruits of her efforts, which she often shared with others. Dagmar was a professional seamstress and often could be found knitting mittens and scarves for her grandchildren. Her love of classical music and Elvis Presley will be etched in the memories of those who knew her best. We will forever see you lying in bed, listening to Mozart and Andrea Bocelli with your eyes wide open and a tranquil smile on your face, lost in the nostalgia and memories of your bygone youth. She is survived by her children, Katherine and Mary; her step-children, Robbin, Todd, and Kim LaRue, her brothers, Ernst von Hopffgarten and Gert Wegner, and her sister Angelika "Geli" Steinke. She has five grandchildren and her first great-grand child was born on Nov. 19, 2019. A Celebration of Life for family will be held Nov. 27, 2020 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM via Zoom and a Memorial Service will be held on Dec. 5, 2020 at 11:00 AM ET at the Clays Mill Baptist Church, located at 1220 Brannon Road in Nicholasville, Ky. for friends and family.
