EDDIE BARTELT MUSCATINE, Iowa - Eddie Arnold Bartelt, 91, of Muscatine, died on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at his home. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015, at Mulford Evangelical Free Church. Reverend Todd Hessel will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors by the combined squads of the V.F.W. Post 1565 and the American Legion Post 27. Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2015, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Mulford Evangelical Free Church. Eddie was born on April 4, 1923, in Muscatine, the son of Eric C. and Elsie Heise Bartelt. He married Barbara E. Eitman on August 1, 1948, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death on January 28, 2010. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School, class of 1941, and graduated from Muscatine Junior College in 1950. He was a US Navy veteran serving from 1941 until 1947 in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He worked at Grain Processing Corporation as a Payroll Supervisor, retiring after 34 years of service. He was a member of Mulford Evangelical Free Church where he had served as Chairman, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee, Financial Secretary, and Deacon. He was a member of the Y's Men, serving as President in 1961. He had also served on the Commission Of Aging Board of Directors. He was elected Muscatine City Council Alderman, serving from 1953 until 1957. He had also been a member of the Muscatine Power and Water Light Board from 1960 until 1965, serving as chairman from 1964 until 1965. Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Deborah B. Penner and husband, Clair, of Muscatine; two granddaughters, Lauren E. Penner and Mary-Claire Penner; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Arnold, Harold, Kenneth, and Ralph Bartelt; and two sisters, Sylvia Maher and an infant sister.
