Evelyn D. Metcalfe BETTENDORF, Iowa--Evelyn D. Metcalfe, 92, of Bettendorf, died on Wednesday, March 14, 2010, at Iowa Masonic Health Services. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Grandview Baptist Church, Davenport. Burial will take place in Muscatine Memorial Park, Muscatine. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. A memorial fund will be established in her memory. Evelyn was born in 1920 in Mercer County, Illinois, the daughter Benjamin and Ella Ziegenhorn. She married James Irwin Metcalfe on October 22, 1942, in Muscatine, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2001. In early years she worked in her uncle's uniform factory in Muscatine and later she was a day care provider and seamstress. Evelyn was an active member at Grandview Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess; she taught Pre-school Sunday School and was chairman of the Social Committee. Survivors include her daughters and son-in-laws; Connie Kirk of Rock Island, Illinois, Joyce and Keith Marshall of Clermont, Florida, Linda and Don Johnson of Bettendorf, Iowa, Carolyn and John Niers of Davenport, and Marsha and Mark Kriner of Bettendorf; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Whitney of Muscatine; a brother, Howard Ziegenhorn of Fort Meyers, Florida; and a loving extended family and her loving church family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Erma Fowler, Marjorie Sloat and Mary Ricketts; two brothers, Melvin Ziegenhorn and Ernest Ziegenhorn; a son-in-law, Tom Kirk; and a great-granddaughter.
