G H Bassham Obituary

GH Bassham, 86, entered into his heavenly home on November 17, 2021. He was born on November 3, 1935, to Roxie and Willburn Bassham. He is survived by his wife Gladys Bell, son Randy and wife Laura of Chandler, Texas, daughters Sandra Barker and Husband Ronnie, Janice Chambers and husband Terry, Kathy Robinson and husband Donny all of Corsicana, Texas; one sister Clovis Mason of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two more on the way, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Mark Bassham, his parents, two brothers and three sisters. GH met the love of his life, Gladys Bell Bassham in Corsicana, Texas. They were married May 5, 1954 and shared a full and happy life for 67 years. He was a Christian and devoted member of Westside Baptist Church. GH was a truck driver starting at a very young age and throughout his life. He also worked at Corsicana Grader as shop foreman and was a security guard at Kmart Warehouse. GH was a great mechanic and loved to work on cars and trucks in his spare time. In fact, people from all over would come to him for advice on how to fix their vehicles. One time he completely refurbished a 1947 Ford car from overhauling the motor to upholstering the seats and dashboard, sewing the material himself. He sold the car to his nephew who lived in Midland, Texas at the time. The city of Midland purchased the car from the nephew, and it's driven in their Christmas Parade each year. GH was a family man. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He looked forward to their visits and the holidays when they would all gather together. He was one of a kind and will be extremely missed by his family and friends. 'In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God took you home.' ~Author unknown. To celebrate GH's life, the family has planned a visitation on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, from 10 to 11 in the morning at Westside Baptist Church in Corsicana. A Funeral Service celebrating his life will follow at 11 o'clock with Rev. Larry Talbert officiating. GH will be laid to rest at Mount Olive Cemetery in Scurry, Texas at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Serving as pallbearers will be Brad Bassham, Ronnie Barker, Taylor Chambers, Terry Chambers, Donny Robinson, Scott Horton, Alvin Mullican and Kyle Long and Honorary Pallbearer Justin Rice. .
