GEORGE GERTH MUSCATINE, Iowa - George Carroll Gerth, 48, a former resident of Muscatine, died on Saturday, June 21, 2003, of a sudden heart attack. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. John P. Gallagher will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mike Frye, Dick Rieke, Joe Rhodes, Ed Longstreth and John Shelangoski. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the George Gerth Memorial Fund. Mr. Gerth was born on Sept. 26, 1954, in Muscatine, the son of George Carroll and Frances Adams Gerth. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School and attended Muscatine Community College. George was a US Army veteran serving in Germany. He had been a resident of Rapid City, South Dakota, for the past seven years. Survivors include his mother, Frances Gerth of Muscatine; two brothers, Ed Gerth of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Brian Gerth of Muscatine; and one sister, Colleen Heither of Muscatine; one nephew, Shane Heither of Muscatine; and one niece, Mandy Mott of Grandview. He was preceded in death by his father in 1967.
