Martha Fay Zimmermann WILTON, Iowa -Martha Fay Zimmermann, 100, a resident of the Muscatine Lutheran Homes, formerly of Iowa City and Stockton, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Lutheran Homes. Funeral Mass will be 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton. Interment will take place at the St. Mary's Cemetery, Wilton. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2009, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton, with a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the service of Saturday, August 22, 2009, at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund in her memory. Martha was born on April 17, 1909, to Albert and Laura Francom Lloyd in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She married George J. Zimmermann Sr. on July 17, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1971. During World War II, she supported the war effort by working at the Rock Island Arsenal. She later worked as a cook at Holy Family Church, Davenport, the old Maid-Rite in Durant, and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority in Iowa City, retiring in 1980. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City where she participated in the Eucharistic Adoration ministry and was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton, for 37 years. She was involved with the NAIM Club and the Catholic Daughters both of Iowa City. She traveled extensively and loved to attend the theater, sew, play cards, and read. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Dorothy Sywassink and husband, Donald, of Letts, Martha and husband, Raymond Novak, of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, Rose Mary Muller and husband, Dean, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Sarah Howard and husband, John, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, 25 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great great-granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son George Zimmermann Jr.; a grandson, George John Zimmerman III; two sisters, Fern Peek and Florence Raw; and a brother, Henry Lloyd.
