MARY BRECHT FORT WAYNE, Indiana - Mary Carolyn Brecht, 94, a former resident of Muscatine, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Towne House Retirement Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2008, at the St. Mathias Church, 215 West Eighth Street. The Reverend Jason Crossen will officiate the service. Entombment will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home with a 5 p.m. Rosary Prayer Service at the funeral home. Mary was born on January 20, 1914, in Davenport, the daughter of William C. and Bertha Klepher Bissell. She married Iver Irwin Brecht on June 9, 1945, in Ottumwa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2003. Mary was a former member of St. Mathias Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas - Joan of Arc Court 524. She and Iver moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in the fall of 2002. Mary is survived by her children, Bonita Delehoy and husband, James, of Anaheim, California, Robert Brecht and wife, Carol, of Moline, Illinois, Susan Souder and husband, Roger, of Auburn, Indiana, Mary Lynn Gaffney and husband, Brian, of Burnsville, Minnesota, Kathryn Palmer of Winter Garden, Florida, Teresa Brecht, and Richard Brecht and wife, Elizabeth, of Clive, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Bissell of Muscatine, Iowa, and Fredrick Bissell of Citrus Heights, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, William and James Bissell.
