Maxine Schmidt WILTON, Iowa - Maxine Marie Schmidt, 62, Wilton, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at her home. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton. The Rev. Brian Shepley will officiate. Musical selections will be provided Bev Rueter, organist, and Henry Bentley, vocalist. Pallbearers are Kent Manion, Dennis Krebs, Leroy Kashka, Mark Patton, Richard Cram and Ron Schulte. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Pilgrams Home Cemetery, Hope, Kan. Visitations are 4-7 p.m. Friday, with a 3:30 p.m. rosary and 7 p.m. Christian Wake Service at Bentley Funeral Home, Wilton, and one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Children's Program at the Wilton Public Library. Mrs. Schmidt was born July 31, 1940, in Fremont, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Ernestine Janulewicz Lambert. She married Clayton C. Schmidt June 26, 1965, in Abilene, Kan. She was a LPN in Kansas City, Mo., Alexandra, La., Clovis, N.M., Abilene, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and for Dr. Wagner in Durant. After retiring from nursing, she was a librarian at the Wilton Public Library from 1987-2002. She was a member of the Grace Noll Crowell Book Club, holding offices of treasurer, secretary, vice president and president at various times. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Durant Garden Club. She enjoyed golfing with her husband and friends, reading about pioneers in the old west, antiquing, craft shows, singing in the church choir, bird watching, traveling with family, sewing and sitting in her four season room. She was always ready to get in the car and go somewhere. She especially enjoyed reading to 3 and 4 year-old children in the Library Story Hour and delivering books to people who were no longer able to travel to the library. Survivors include her husband; a son, Levi Schmidt of Wilton; three sisters, Alyce Mars and husband Marvin of Petaluma, Calif., June Manion and husband Kent of Topeka, Kan., Renee Kerbs and husband Denny of Abilene; a brother, Charles Lambert III and wife Nancy of Abilene, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lisa Marie Schmidt; and a son, Paul Lambert Schmidt.
