SHIRLEY BAUMGARDNER MUSCATINE, Iowa - Shirley G. Baumgardner, 92, of Muscatine, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Sunnybook Assisted Living. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2015, at Greenwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Shirley was born on July 27, 1922, in San Diego, California, the daughter of William and Matilda Wolfe Bergenske. She married Harold M. Baumgardner on April 23, 1946, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1997. She worked as a telephone operator until her retirement. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Lady Elks. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling. Those left to honor her memory include her son, William Baumgardner of Muscatine; two grandchildren, Katy Lockard and her children, Chloe and Sadie, and Laura Peate and husband, Joey, and their daughter, Daisy; a sister-in-law, Thelma Bloom of Chicago, Illinois; a nephew, Michael Bloom of Marshalltown; two nieces, Patricia Bloom and husband, Mark Gelula, of Chicago, Illinois, and Jana Batchelor and husband, Chuck, of Muscatine; one great-nephew, Adam Batchelor; and one great-niece, Adriana Harle and husband, Mark. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one brother, Delphy Bergenske.
